Building codes are ramping up in requiring testing of installed assemblies. Washington State Energy Code, (sections C406.9 & R402.4.1.2) require whole building pressurization tests to confirm energy performance in accordance with ASTM E779 or ASTM E1827. Washington State Code RCW 64.34 (a.k.a. Condominium Act) and RCW 64-55-050 requires 'Water Penetration Resistance Testing' of a representative sample of windows and window installations.
TESTING
For Construction QC: Our mobile laboratories are outfitted with portable, calibrated testing equipment and trained staff to run field air and water infiltration tests under static pressure differential. Optionally, we conduct hose testing of exterior walls, skylights. These valued field tests are used to find know leaks sources and to verify quality installation and workmanship prior to the project close-outs and turn-overs.
For Pre-Construction: Using nondestructive moisture surveys, FS has the ability to detect, quantify and delineate areas of saturation (or lack of saturation) within a roof or wall system without having to open the roof or wall.
Using portable scanners and infra-red thermography, we determine where moisture is trapped in the roof or wall assembly. Delineating the areas of trapped moisture provides building owners the information needed to make cost effective corrective action.

"Standard Guide for Evaluating Water Leakage of Building Walls" describes methods for determining and evaluating causes of water intrusion of exterior walls. It’s the “unofficial” field guide for exterior wall consultants. The standard defines the “wall” as a system; therefore, it includes the exterior cladding, structural components, fenestrations (windows and doors), and interior finish systems.
